FENCING NORTH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023 - Booking Page now open.

FENCING NORTH THANKS the TRUSTS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION for funding venue hire for this event.

This is a ranking event for FOIL only, but we are also hosting non-ranking EPEE and SABRE events. Please access booking link via calendar.

Brian Pickworth represented NZ in the 1960 Rome Olympics and in the 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970 Empire and Commonwealth Games. 
Originally a keen Rugby player, he switched to fencing after an accident in which he lost his left arm above the elbow. He represented NZ in all three fencing disciplines and won a bronze medal in the sabre teams event at the 1960 Rome Olympics. In addition to gaining distinction as an Olympian fencer, he is also remembered as having been an active tennis player. 

North Secondary Schools Championships this weekend - standard registrations close 11.55pm tonight  (Tuesday 8th)

Late entries until Thursday 10th will attract a $20 late fee so get in quick!

RESULTS

We have very low registrations for this event (many fencers are away at the moment) and it would not be viable to run the event with current numbers. 

We will review registrations tomorrow evening (Wednesday). 

Since the competition is a ranking event for Sabre and if numbers are still unviable we would propose running the McLeavey sabre event and the Pickworth foil ranking event together on Sunday September 17th. 

Should we need to postpone the event, we will advertise this via Facebook and the Fencing North website and registration fees will be refunded.

This tournament will feature events in all disciplines ie. Foil, Epee and Sabre, but subject to recent changes to Fencing New Zealand competition policy, FeNZ ranking points will only be offered in the sabre events.
