Success in Australia

Congratulations to Hamish Chan and Mary Black on their outstanding performances over the weekend at AFC #3 in Melbourne.

Hamish ranked 20th after the poules and fought his way through the elimination rounds to place 3rd in a field of 51 fencers.

Auckland fencers Daniel Garelja, Oliver Agnew, and Nicola Buisman competed at South Island Fencing Champs in Christchurch over the past weekend - and all three took out some great results.

Men's Foil:

Daniel has been training hard with his coach Anya Kamynina - building on his recent experience at Asian Senior Champs and the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Champs. This hard work helped him to win the South Island Foil Champs title for 2015. Oliver also placed in the Foil competition, coming in at 3rd= despite foil not being his main weapon.

Men's Epee:

Oliver has also been training hard, both at fencing with coach Kyle Macdonald and at the gym where he has been improving his core strength and agility. On top of his placing in foil Oliver also won U23 National Epee Champs and placed 2nd in the South Island Epee Champs.

Women's Foil:

Nicola Buisman has been working hard on her technique at the University of Auckland Fencing Club and New Zealand Academy of Fencing. She won the poule round and had a good run through to the semi finals in Women's Foil where she lost to Suzy Cheng from Dunedin, placing 3rd overall.

Congratulations to our fencers on their achievements!
