The Auckland Grammar School Fencing Team is a dedicated group of sportsmen that has gained success at the Auckland Regional Secondary School Championships and the Fencing National Championships. Many of its team members have represented New Zealand at an Australasian level. The fencing team trains two times a week, with the assistance of a professional coach, Judit Fliszar.

The team’s most recent achievements took place at the 2013 Secondary Schools’ Nationals in Dunedin, with the Foil A team taking 3rd place, and Sabre A team taking 2nd. Grammar also took home several individual achievements, with B. Ng taking 1st place in foil, T. Nielson securing 2nd place in Sabre and T. Leigh taking home 3rd place, also in Sabre.

The Auckland Grammar Fencing Team maintains friendly relationships with other school fencing teams, such as the Epsom Girls’ Grammar team (wink wink) and the team remains as one of the most formidable in New Zealand and there are high hopes for the club to maintain its reputation as a new year begins with new tournaments just beyond the horizon.

The club is located at Auckland Boys’ Grammar School in the Old Gymnasium, trains in foil and sabre. Training times are Thursday from 3:15-4:00pm, footwork and fitness only, and fencing training on Fridays from 3:30-5:00pm.
